Horsebox Insurance
Recently a friend contacted me about how she got ripped off by buying cheap horsebox insurance online. She asked where I find horsebox insurance online.
Regardless of if you have a large horse wagon or just an old horse trailer, it’s important to take out proper insurance so that if the worst should happen, you are properly insured, covered and don’t have to worry.
I have only ever used 3 insurance companies when taking out a policy for my horsebox. I will write a mini review below.
The first (and the company I am with now and have been for the past 5 years) is Norwich union (soon to be Aviva). Norwich Union horsebox insurance is an ideas policy for those of us with heavier and more expensive horse boxes. They are more relaxed about security requirements however as any of us who have had a horsebox stolen know – a horsebox can never be too secure.
The second company I have used and rate very highly is red star equity horsebox insurance. They offer smashing discounts for:
- Restricting driving to one or two drivers
- Restricting annual mileage to 3000 or 5000 miles
- Generous introductory discount for first time insurers with clean record
- Up to 40% No Claim Discount, transfers of bonus accepted
- Rates cover a horsebox up to 7.5 ton GVW – heavier vehicle accepted at additional premium
- Cover available for young drivers – subject to additional premium and terms
- Quotes for vehicles valued up to £40,000 instantly available – higher values can be considered.
The final company that I have used is Highway Insurance. Like Redstar equity, they offer great discounts when:
- Restricting driving to one or two drivers
- Restricting annual mileage to 3000 miles
- Very generous introductory discount for first time insurers with clean record
- Up to 40% No Claim Discount, transfers of bonus accepted
- Rates cover vehicles up to 7.5 ton GVW – heavier vehicle accepted at additional premium
- Quotes for vehicles valued up to £25,000 instantly available.
Personally I always aim to over insure my horsebox, just as I tent to over secure my horses, horseboxes and other equine equipment.
Good horsebox insurance is critical for making sure that should the worst happen you can rest easy knowing that your insurance company can do all the hard work while you relax and take care of your horses.
